Chai Golden Milk

Here is a delicious chai tea recipe that you can try today to start incorporating as a coffee alternative or simply a delicious tea.

Ingredients

1 tbsp. fresh grated turmeric root or 1 heaped tsp. turmeric powder

1 tsp. fresh grated ginger

1 cinnamon stick

4 green cardamom pods

6 black peppercorns

1 green tea bag or 2 tsp. green tea leaves

Raw goats milk / coconut milk / almond milk

Method

  1. To prepare: Bring 1 cup of water to a boil add the spices, keeping the green tea aside, and simmer for 10 mins. Turn off the heat and steep for 10 minutes.

  2. Add the green tea to the water and steep 5 minutes more. Strain, and if you’d like it hot, add the liquid back to the pot, bringing it to a simmer.

  3. Pour into a cup and add your milk in the amount you like in your tea. Alternatively, you can use milk instead of the water. You can drink this 1-2 times a day. One cup now and again is safe during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

Herbal benefits

Turmeric is highly anti-inflammatory, improves liver detoxification and helps to reset cortisol, especially when elevated due to chronic stress. Black pepper helps to activate the medicinal compounds in turmeric.

Ginger is also anti-inflammatory, and both ginger and turmeric heal the gut lining, relieve gas and bloating, and are helpful for pain. Cardamom promotes mental clarity and improves digestion.

Cinnamon is anti-infective, benefits digestion, helps lower high blood sugar and improves insulin resistance.

Green tea is a powerful anti-inflammatory containing compounds which improve natural detoxification while supporting healthy metabolism.
